Welcome to Custom Metal Roofing Ltd
Custom Metal Roofing Ltd was established in January 2020 so is a relatively new company. That being said, there is certainly no lack of experience behind the name, as it is owned , run and staffed by the amalgamation of some of the industry’s most skilled and knowledgeable individuals.
Darren Tutt – Director
Darren is himself a former lead worker and tinsmith who has worked on some of the most iconic buildings in the Country. After moving through the ranks of various companies, gaining valuable experience along the way, Darren stepped out of the contracting world and into the Technical arena, taking up the role of Senior Technical Officer of the Lead Sheet Association. During his 5 years here Darren advised homeowners, architects, builders and other clients on the design and installation of lead work up and down the Country. He was instrumental in re-editing the Rolled Lead Sheet Manual, the famous ‘go to’ reference for everyone in the trade and also undertook surveys and site visits to buildings big and small, boasting Royal residences and castles amongst the many reports he has written. Darren has written many articles for publications within the industry and is still occasionally asked for his technical advice by many. A desire to return to his contracting roots saw Darren seek to form a partnership with Richard West, a highly skilled roofer in his own right, with the dream of creating a company whose standards and reputation would be unrivalled in the traditional metal roofing world. From this desire Custom Metal Roofing Ltd was born.
Richard West – Director
Richard brings a whole different set of skill to the table, with his experience firmly grounded in all aspects of tiling, slating and single ply membrane roofing. Richard also heads up the seamless aluminium guttering arm of the business, bringing a different dimension and offering to the business as a whole. Richard has many years’ experience of running businesses and happily took advantage of the prospect of forming a world beating partnership. Together with Darren’s practical and technical ability the duo have created something truly special and unique, being able to offer the highest possible standards along with the technical knowhow to give their customers the utmost confidence in everything they do.
Claire Chantry – Office Manager
Claire joined the company in 2021 as the business grew. Claire has rapidly become invaluable as the company focal point in the office and works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that all of our contracts are organized, supplied and run smoothly. Claire liaises with our client base and staff and is always on hand to answer any questions our clients may have.

The Metals we use
Zinc
Zinc is a traditional hard metal widely used across the UK and favoured by architects and homeowners alike in modern architecture for roofing and cladding applications. It is extremely hard wearing and durable, with many different finishes available. Zinc can be formed into complex geometric shapes or used as a simple standing seam roof covering, making it one of the most popular metals in use in construction today.
Here at Custom Metal Roofing Ltd we work with all zinc manufacturers such as VM Zinc, Rheinzink, elZinc, Nedzink and ZM Silesia and feature on their preferred contractor’s lists.
Copper
Copper is probably one of the oldest forms of traditional metal roofing, with its distinctive green patina after many years of natural weathering a common feature in the landscape. Copper’s natural temper allows it to be formed into even more complex shapes such as domes and spires which make it ideally suited to both modern and historical buildings. Just like zinc it can also be used in a modern context with standing seam longstrip roofing a great option for ultimate longevity to any project.
Aluminium Aluminium provides customers with the opportunity to explore an even more varied colour palette whilst maintaining the same overall level of detailing associated with other metals. As aluminium is also extremely lightweight it has added benefits where structural loadings are more critical.
Galvanised Steel
Galvanised steel is an increasingly popular choice for many, boasting a multitude of coloured finishes as well as impressive green credentials. Like many of the other metals we use it is extremely hard wearing and long lasting. Custom Metal Roofing Ltd work closely with all of the major manufacturers and distributers in the UK.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is a great alternative to more expensive metal roof coverings and is ideal for use in harsher marine locations. It is commonly used as a lead alternative as its eventual patina can look very similar to lead sheet, which makes it a good substitute on many ecclesiastical and heritage buildings.
